Intergenerational Neighbourhood / Coldrerio

The site is located in the center of the residential area of Coldrerio, in vicinity of the church, the sports center, the park and the old town center.
The project connects all of these parts by a system of pathways, green areas, and small pedestrian squares following the style of a village.
The nursing home and the civic center define a wide park, composed of gardens located on different levels. The free view from the north-south direction allows a visual connection between the several garden areas and the northern hills.
The layout of the nursing home reduces the horizontal paths on the floor. Double corridors, connected by cross passages, create circular paths inside the care wards and serve to connect rooms, services and living rooms. The facade design is a synthesis between the public role of the building, expressed by the clear reinforced concrete structure, and its domestic character expressed by the variety of windows equipped with sliding wooden shutters.
